Clear Springs and Auntie Pastas will host a crawfish boil to benefit the American Cancer Society and Relay for Life in the parking lot across from Clear Springs at 211 Old Tyler Rd., on March 27.
The event will begin at 11 a.m. and will last "until the mudbugs are gone," according to Nichole Weaver, marketing director of Hill Country Restaurants. Dishes will cost $8 and will include a pound of crawfish, potatoes and corn.
It was decided to host the boil when Auntie Pastas and Clear Springs office controller Karen Stolte was diagnosed with breast cancer for the second time.
"It's in honor of her. She's still fighting it," Weaver said.
All proceeds from the event will go to the American Cancer Society and Relay for Life.
"We wanted to do a charity event and thought crawfish would be a good thing to do. I mean, we're a restaurant already, and it's kind of something to get the summer going," Weaver said.
The goal is make as much money as possible, raising at least a thousand dollars.
"It's crawfish, beer and a good time for a good cause," Weaver said. "Anybody who wants to be part of a good cause should come."
The American Cancer Society is a community-based health organization whose goal, according to its mission statement, is to eliminate cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives, and diminishing suffering from cancer through research, education, advocacy, and service. Relay for Life is an event held to celebrate cancer survivors and raise money for research for the American Cancer Society, according to the ACS Web site. The event lasts overnight and teams of people take turns walking or running laps trying to keep at least one team member on the track at all times.
