SFA students will have the opportunity to give back and help others over Spring Break by participating in one of three mission trips sponsored by Crosspoint.
Students must sign up by Sunday, March 7, to participate in one of three available mission trips, including Panama City Beach, Fla.; Austin, Texas, and Nacogdoches.
The trips will occur over the SFA Spring Break from March 13 to 17.
The Florida trip will begin on Saturday, March 13, and will end Friday, March 19. The Austin and Nacogdoches trips will also begin on Saturday, March 13 but will finish on Wednesday, March 17.
The purposes of the trips are largely the same, but the methods for each differ.
"Our primary goal is to develop relationships with people by serving them and helping them as best we can," Kyle Easley, associate pastor of Grace Bible Church (sponsor of Crosspoint) said. "We also want students to develop relationships with each other and to bond with one another."
The mission team going to Florida will partner with Campus Crusade for Christ.
"We are planning on walking the beaches of Panama City Beach and just talking to students that are there on break," Easley said. "We just want to talk to them and help them through anything that they are dealing with."
The Florida team will also be putting together relief boxes for earthquake victims in Haiti. The boxes will contain food, blankets, batteries and other essential items.
Students who sign up for the Austin trip have the option of working with North Village Church by setting up and running sports camps for children in the community. Easley encouraged students with any athletic ability to consider the sports camps.
"Anyone can go to Austin, but it would definitely be a plus is they are athletic or have sports experience," he said.
The goal for the trip to Austin is to develop relationships with the families in the community and to encourage them to become involved in the church by inviting them to participate in the camps.
For students wishing to stay closer to home, Crosspoint will offer a project in Nacogdoches, where students will work with Habitat for Humanity and build two houses for families in need.
"We want students to see that it is not necessary to travel across the state or country to serve and help people in need," Easley said. "There are people right here in this community that need to be encouraged and helped."
The costs for the trips to Florida, Austin and Nacogdoches are $500, $75 and $40 respectively.
