It is the tradition of the SFA planetarium to produce shows on aspects of our solar system and beyond, and this time it is organizing a show our neighboring planet- MARS, the third planet to the sun.
It is a three-part show titled MARSQUEST and explores the various aspects of the planet-its mythology, history, present and future exploration efforts both robotics and manned expeditions. Mars is a planet with plenty of similarities with ours and is suspected to sustain life of some form.
Edward Michael, planetarium director, explained what the show is about. "The first part is an up-to-date documentary on the planet-the discoveries made," he said. "The second part is a simulation of the night sky of East Texas where the audience will have the opportunity of viewing and identifying the planet MARS in the sky, and the third part of the show is a question-and-answer session where the audiences questions on the show and/or general questions on astronomy would be answered."
MARSQUEST is shown at the planetarium in the Mathematics Building at 7 p.m. every Friday from Jan. 22 to March 5. The show is open to staff, students and the general public. Tickets are $2. Enthusiasts of astronomy are encouraged to attend. For more information, call the astronomy department at (936) 468-3001.
