The Hott Box, a hookah bar, will be opening Monday, Feb. 15, on North Street between Starbucks and Brad Fontenot Insurance.
The Hott Box is owned by four friends, Casey Roe, Daniel Allgood, Josh Norris and Justin Knight. Roe, Norris and Knight are all SFA students and are members of Theta Chi fraternity.
According to Roe, they got the idea to open a hookah bar after visiting several in Dallas, because they knew it would be a hit in Nacogdoches. He said, "Everybody likes to smoke hookah." According to dictionary.com, a hookah is "an Eastern smoking pipe designed with a long tube passing through an urn of water that cools the smoke as it is drawn through."
Allgood had enough money saved for them to open their own hookah bar. So, the four contacted a lawyer in Lufkin to get the process started. They completed copious amounts of paperwork and secured the necessary permits.
The Hott Box will be open seven days a week from midnight to 2 a.m. It's a place to go when everything else in Nacogdoches closes. Roe says it's a place for the "after club hour people." The Hott Box markets more toward college students and those ages 18 to 25 and is a unique addition to Nacogdoches.
"It's the only place in Nacogdoches that you can smoke inside," Roe pointed out. In addition to the 20 hookahs available to rent and more than 30 flavors of shisha, patrons can smoke their own cigarettes and cigars. Roe said they are looking into selling cigars.
The Hott Box will have a nightclub atmosphere. The walls will be painted black and red. There will be square tables and two TVs in the front and couches and coffee tables in the back. They plan on having low lights and playing soft, techno music. Also, there will be free wi-fi available.
