Jacks clinch a share of SLC Championship in victory over Demons for Chief Caddo and a playoff position

The Jacks took a win over the Northwestern State Demons in Saturday's battle for Chief Caddo, solidifying SFA's playoff position and a share of the Southland Conference title. SFA and McNeese State are the 2009 SLC co-conference champions.
In addition to recording the victory, starting quarterback Jeremy Moses, Baytown junior, completed 34 of 47 passes for 333 yards and two touchdowns and became the school's career leader in passing yards (8,767). Receiver Duane Brooks, Irving senior, also set a new SFA single-game record with 15 receptions.
The Demons took the field strong in the first with a 3-yard rush into the end zone to put Northwestern ahead 7-0 with 10:19 on the clock. SFA was quick to close the scoring gap with an Evan Engwall, Derby, Kan., freshman, field goal to put the Jacks 4 points behind the Demons with 6:25 on the clock. The Jacks took the lead 10-7 with 2:37 left in the quarter with a 31-yard touchdown pass to Gralyn Crawford, Palestine freshman.
The Demons tied the game with a field goal in their first drive of the second quarter until the Jacks jumped back out in front with a 33-yard field goal by Engwall with 11:51 in the third. Moses completed the last touchdown pass of the game to Cordell Roberson, Jefferson freshman, for 57-yards in the fourth to win the game 19-10, earning the 7-foot-6, 320-pound Chief Caddo trophy back for SFA.
Romonte Hampton, Tyler freshman, led the Jacks' rushing efforts with 55-yards while Vincent Pervis, Texas City senior, totaled in at 54. Roberson led SFA in receiving yards with a total of 128 and one touchdown. Crawford also recorded a touchdown for the Jacks while totaling in at 71-yards.
Devin Ducote, Baton Rouge sophomore, led the Jacks' defense with 14 total tackles, eight being solo stops, while Cory Barlow, Friendswood senior, recorded 10 tackles, eight also being solos.
The Jacks hosted an NCAA FCS Playoff selection watch party at the Baker Pattillo Student Center Theatre Sunday to watch the anticipated first round match-ups for the 2009 post season. SFA (9-2) will be hosting Eastern Washington (8-3) at Homer Bryce Stadium Saturday, Nov. 28. The game is slated to begin at 2 p.m.
