Annual Piney Woods Fair back in Nacogdoches aiming to provide fried foods, fast-paced rides

Starting Wednesday, the Nacogdoches County Exposition Center is hard to miss with blinding lights from enormous, gut wrenching rides and the loud screams and laughter of participants at the 2009 Piney Woods Fair.
Five nights of livestock shows, cheerleading competitions, funnel cakes and fast-paced rides are in store for any brave-hearted individual that dares to push past throngs of people.
This year the fair will include four nights of special promotions, with Saturday being the only day with no discounts available.
Wednesday was KTRE Ride-A-Mania and featured armbands with a $5 discount with three canned goods. Armbands were $17 without canned goods.
Thursday is KETK's Buddy Night where one person pays for a ride and their friend rides with them for free. Buddies must have a sticker, which is available at the gate, according to nacexpo.net.
Friday night is Midnight Madness, sponsored by Coca-Cola. Unlimited rides are $12 between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m.
"I love the cool night air in October and the smell in the air when you get close enough and feel something that just screams 'fair'," Seleste Holloway said.
She said she has been going to the Piney Woods Fair for 10 years and enjoys Midnight Madness night the best.
On Sunday, rides open at 1 p.m. and are open until 11 p.m. Armbands are available between 1 and 5 p.m. for $12.
Vendors range from funnel cake sellers to fried Twinkie booths to local organizations looking for support and new members.
The fair also exhibits an Arts and Crafts show, canning and baking contests, a photography contest and livestock shows.
