As of March 1, SFA's former president, Dr. Tito Guerrero, became the next president of Cambridge College in Massachusetts.
Cambridge College is a private institution, with several campuses in Massachusetts, along with one in Tennessee, Virginia and Puerto Rico. It is dedicated to providing higher education for a population of working adults who may have a limited schedule.
The college was founded in 1971 by Eileen Moran Brown. She served as interim president since 2008 and Dr. Guerrero has taken her place. The search for candidates lasted over a year and was conducted by a search committee led by Isaacson, Miller, a national executive search firm.
Kimberly Dunbar, assistant director of development & communications, said that the search committee ultimately narrowed the decision down to three candidates. Each of the candidates had to make a visit to the school and speak before the committee. It was then narrowed down to two candidates, with Dr. Guerrero being selected in the end.
The college was determined to find a leader who shared the school's vision and had the experience to execute it. Founder and Chancellor Brown said she is very excited about the new president because he shares the school's commitment to providing cost effective education to students.
Dr. Guerrero was most recently the Vice President at Texas A&M University and also served as president of the University of Southern Colorado. Hispanic Business Magazine honored him as one of the 100 most influential Hispanics in the United States and in 2007 he was awarded the Harvard Alumni Color of Achievement.
Cambridge College's goal is to emphasize providing a higher education to students that have working schedules. The average age of students is 38, with over 40% being minorities. The college has maintained one of the lowest tuition rates among private institutions in the state, with a 4-year Bachelor's degree program averaging only $41,400.
