Coming off a loss in an NCAA-record-setting performance last week against Sam Houston, the Lumberjacks came up short against the McNeese State Cowboys in Saturday night's 42-31 loss at Cowboy Stadium.

The start of the game looked promising for the Jacks, with 7 points on the opening drive followed by a 29-yard field goal by Cory Long, Richardson senior. On just the second possession of the first half, it looked as if the Jacks were on their way to another high-scoring night and possibly the third conference win on the season. After a opening drive hold from the SFA defense, the Cowboys turned to league-leader rusher Todd Pendland to move the ball. The Lumberjacks' defense could not stop the running back as he rushed his way to a career-high 242 yards and three touchdowns, nor could they stop the 299 total rushing offense posted by the Cowboys.

SFA picked up where they left off last week, as Jeremy Mosses, Baytown sophomore, was 31 for 49 in passing attempts for a total of 331 yards and four touchdowns on the night. Dominique Edison, San Augustine senior, matched his individual session high with three touchdowns and rushed for a total of 140 yards. Moses and Duane Brooks, Irving junior, hooked up to tie the third-best single-game school record completion with 13 catches, improving Brooks' individual career high from nine during the South Dakota State game early this session.

Cornell Tarrant rushed for a individual session high 115 yards with 15 carries, and his second straight 100-yard game. SFA completed the night with a total of 464 offense yards, four touchdowns and one field goal. "I don't think we have any reason whatsoever to hang our heads. We came in here and gave McNeese a heck of a battle," head coach J.C. Harper said.

With this win McNeese moves into a two-way tie in the Southland Conference. The Lumberjacks final opponent of the year will be Northwestern State. The Lumberjacks' move to 2-3 in conference play and 4-6 overall with just two games left on the season. The Lumberjacks return home to take on Southland Conference Division Leaders Central Arkansas scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 15. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Homer Bryce Stadium.
