Various Republican supporters came out Thursday night to listen to Rev. Stephen E. Broden and Dr. Rick Scarborough, both from Dallas, speak out about voting.
The crowd was a mix of Nacogdoches residents and SFA students, and McCain/Palin posters adorned the walls along with the names of the other various Texas Republicans running for office.
Broden spoke first, telling the audience, "We must vote, and we must vote our faith." Broden is the president of the African American Alumni Association Executive Committee and founder of Ebony Berean's, an organization to inform African American pastors about the "Cultural Wars." He is also president of the Fair Park Friendship Center and pastor of the Fair Park Bible Fellowship.
"I am fully convinced we are standing at a critical moment in our country," he said. Broden spoke to the audience about voting on a Christian basis and not voting with their pocketbooks. He has stated publicly that he will be voting for McCain on Nov. 4, something that he said few pastors do.
"Some people are excited to know that a pastor stood up and took a stand," he said.
Broden, who has appeared on Gov. Mike Huckabee's Fox News program, talked about how society needs to get back to the Constitutional values that it was built on.
"We are in a place in America where we have taken our eyes off of God," he said.
Scarborough, also a pastor and a pro-family activist, said he supported Broden's stance. He has appeared on Larry King Live, Fox News, CBS Evening News and other radio and television programs. He is also the founder of Vision America.
"The only way Obama would be come president is if Christians do not show up and vote as followers of Christ," Scarborough said.
Both Broden and Scarborough were critical of Obama's political stance, especially on abortion. They both spoke about restoring America to its Judeo-Christian values and said to do so, Christians must vote.
"Christians must rise up and take action to get people to vote," Scarborough said.

Unconstitutional, pre-emptive wars are just as wrong as abortion.
