The Spanish Club is hosting a foreign language talent show at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19, in the auditorium (Room 101) of the Math/Nursing Building.

Spanish Club was started in 2002 by professor Marcela Valencia and has about 30 student members who are interested in the Spanish language.

"This is the first time the Spanish Club has organized a talent show," said Lizeth Ramirez, Laneville junior and president of the Spanish Club. "it was originally (the idea of) Professor Annette Escamilla, a Spanish professor at SFA,"

Students wanting to participate in the show must put together a 10-minute performance that is only in a foreign language.

"(This is) so the audience can fully embrace the foreign language experience," Ramirez said.

The performances are going to be judged on originality and quality by the five officers of the Spanish Club.

"We're (still) in the process of coming up with our grading rubric," Ramirez said.

Any student who wants to can participate and sign up by the deadline, 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 7, in the Modern Language office, LAN Room 235.

"Although this is a competition, only first place will receive a prize, since this is meant to be more for fun and entertainment," Ramirez said. "The prize will consist of a gift basket filled with all sorts of gift cards and goodies."

Admission to the performance is free, and five performances are signed up already.

"I think this will be a very fun and interesting event," she said. "It allows the students of SFA to show off their talent in their foreign language, and it gives the audience a wonderful foreign language experience. I think it'll be great."
