Beta Alpha Psi, an academic fraternity, is hosting three financial events for students. They are scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 28; Nov. 4 and Nov. 11. All of the seminars will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. in the Twilight Ballroom on the second floor of the BPSC.

The topic of the first seminar is credit cards and managing debt. Jana Broussard, a professional from the Nacogdoches community, will be the guest speaker. There will be raffles and surveys for students to participate in. Cash prizes will be given to those who take part in the surveys.

Jodi Henley, Beta Alpha Psi member and Bellville senior, said it's important for college students to start building their credit. "Credit cards aren't really a bad thing. I've had one for four years, and I've never had to paid extra fees," Henley said. " You just have to figure out what works best for you."

The second seminar is about investing. Heather Harris, SFA alumna who works for Edward Jones Investment Company, will be speaking.

The third seminar will be discussing identity theft. Amy Proctor, president of the East Texas society, will be the speaker.

The fraternity is also working on events for next semester. The events will help students with interviewing skills and proper etiquette. Henley said, "We want to help students beyond the classroom and provide them with other types of training for the working world." They plan to team up the Career Services for this project.

"I really hope we'll have a big turnout. We've handed out brochures all over campus and the community," Henley said. "This is meant for everyone, especially SFA graduates."

Students can pick up brochures for the events in the McGee Building, suite 292. The seminars are sponsored by the East Texas Chapter of the Texas Society of certified Public Accountants and the Gerald W. Schlief School of Accountancy.
