The Ladyjack Volleyball team won its ninth straight match against McNeese's Cowgirls with scores of 25-15, 25-17 and 25-15 on Saturday.
"Our big goal this year is to win the conference title," head coach Debbie Humphreys said.
Their small goals are just playing one week at a time. This week it was taking care of McNeese, which they did successfully. Between MC Bottles, Rowlett freshman, and Ashley Bailey, Mesquite junior, they got 35 kills during the game.
Before halftime the Ladyjacks led 2-0 while keeping a defensive hold on the Cowgirls.
Coming into game three the Ladyjacks came out flat ,and McNeese came out to play. Unfortunately the momentum got the Ladyjacks going into playing game four, but they rebounded nicely.
"The team's strength this year is good solid depth and having quality people that can come off the bench," Humphreys said.
"When it comes to leadership the two seniors who are co-captains lead by example," she said. "All the girls help each other out in different ways such as playing the game or giving advice. They have been playing really well so far and keep improving with each game this season."
For the next game the team will just keep trying to get closer to their goal of winning the conference title for the fifth year in a row. The Ladyjacks will play Lousiana Tech at 7 p.m. on Tuesday in Johnson Colliseum.
