Dear SFA Students, Faculty and Staff:

Sadly, in many college towns when students graduate they leave their pets behind. The "No Pet Left Behind" program is an effort to educate college students that owning a pet is a commitment that cannot be taken lightly.

On Wednesday, April 30, from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. ODK will be at Surfin' Steve handing out: - Fliers that include statistics on how many pets are left behind each year and the tragedy of what happens to those pets

- Information on where animals can be surrendered if a student has no other option

- Applications to volunteer at the Nacogdoches Animal Shelter

- Information on how to adopt

We are working with the local animal shelter to have several of their puppies and cats on campus with us during our program.

In addition to educating students, the program will also encourage them to donate cat and dog food and toys to the Nacogdoches Animal Shelter. The city supplies the Nacogdoches Animal Shelter with the facility and a $240,000 budget to cover salaries, utilities, building maintenance and upkeep, but that amount does not cover food, vaccines, heartworm tests or de-worming medication; all these products must be donated.

For more information go to No Pet Left Behind facebook group, stop by ODK office located in BPSC, Room 3.302 or e-mail inquiries to sfa.odk@gmail.com.
