The Muslim Student Association (MSA), started in part by Habiba Awan, is making its presence known on the SFA campus.
Awan, a member of the Nacogdoches community and a prominent supporter of the University, made the decision to found the association in hopes of eradicating prior misconceptions about the multitude of religions around campus and the outlying community.
The MSA, whose meetings are open to anyone, whether or not they are of the Muslim faith, plans to engage in a variety of intercultural activities and create an active relationship with other religious and non-religious organizations in Nacogdoches.
Currently the MSA's member is about 15, including Muslims and non-Muslims. In order to increase religious understanding, Dr. Thomas Segady, sociology professor, agreed to be adviser for the Islamic organization.
According Misbah Anjum, Houston sophomore and media consultant for MSA, "Our goal is to promote positive interactions and views among cultures and beliefs that may have previously been amiss."
Among other purposes is their desire to secure a location on campus for obligatory prayer and create an environment for Muslims to develop personally and religiously. They will be recognized by the national MSA for their efforts. MSA will hold their next meeting on Friday, Nov. 30 at 4 p.m. There will be open discussion about Islam and the lecture presented.
For information on the Muslim Student Association and membership opportunities please attend the meeting on Friday in the Student Center or email anjumm@titan.sfasu.edu.

Responses like the one from Joshua are the exact bigoted stereotypes this organization is trying to change. It's disappointing to see that the first and thus far only comment to this article has been ripe with such ignorant views. (Continued…)

What is it you think of when you hear the word stupid? I think of close-minded people like you, Joshua. Joshua I find it quite entertaining that you say, "I for one do not want to hug the religion that despises the American way of life because it is different than their own. (Continued…)

Its sad to see comments like Joshua's. It's people like Joshua that gives America a bad reputation. It's funny when you mention Muslim extremests because in America we have many forms of similar groups such as the KKK. (Continued…)

I am sorry for my lack of tolerance. My father beat me as a child and I have Erectile dysfunction.
I pretty much suck at life.

This comment infuriates me to my core. How can someone say something like this? I do not understand why people judge a group of people by the actions of a few individuals. (Continued…)

Another example in which people explicitly demonstrate the lack of purpose in their own lives. Point missed after point missed. Error upon error. People treading upon people. (Continued…)
