Lifeguard Certification
Ages 15 and up at the HPE Indoor Pool
American Red Cross Lifeguarding is ideal for lifeguards working at traditional pools. The
course teaches professionalism, patron and facility surveillance, victim recognition, equip
ment-based rescues, and caring for head, neck and back injuries.
Class 1: Oct. 8 through Oct. 11 AND Oct. 15 through Oct. 18, 6 p.m. - 10 p.m.
Class 2: Nov. 5 through Nov. 8 AND Nov. 12 through Nov. 15, 6 p.m. - 10 p.m.
$95 includes class, book, rescue mask, and certification cards. Participants MUST
attend every day of their class and pass skills to obtain certification. Please register in the
Administrative office. Participant space is limited.
Power Lifting
Tuesday, Nov. 13, from 4 - 6 p.m. at the Student Recreation Center Free
Weight Area. Come at your leisure, the top 8 combined scores place.
World Diabetes Day
Wednesday, Nov. 14 from 12 - 2 p.m. and 4 - 6 p.m. at the Student Recreation Center Lobby
World Diabetes Day is programmed to help bring awareness to the campus community
about this national illness. There will be informational booths providing educational
information and giveaways.
Spring Job Fair
Thursday, Nov. 15 , from 11 - 2 p.m. at the Student Recreation Center MeetingRoom.
Look for a job? Come join our friendly staff for a job fair. Meet coordinators and graduate
assistants from every program. On-the-spot interviews will also be conducted.
Great American Smoke Out
Friday, Nov. 16, from 12 - 2 p.m. and 4 - 6 p.m. at the Student Recreation Center Lobby.
Join Campus Recreation in a national campaign to help college communities learn about
the danger of smoking. Sign a pledge to be smoke free and receive a thank you from
Campus Recreation! There will be informational booths providing educational material
and giveaways.
"Jacks On Belay"
Sunday, Nov. 18, from 10 - 2 p.m. at the Student Recreation Center Climbing Wall.
The SFA Outdoor Pursuits program and Sam Houston
will be hosting a climbing competition. It will be the
first climbing competition in East Texas and will have
participants from all over Texas. The competition will be
held in the new Student Recreation enter and will help
participants warm up spring climbing competitions.
Climbing categories include: bouldering, beginner,
intermediate and advanced levels of climbing.
Gobblin Getaway Trip
Weekend of Nov. 21 - 25 in Palo Duro Canyon, $75.
This is an excellent opportunity to see the second largest
canyon in the United States, right here in our state! Come
see why we say "the stars at night are big and bright." We
will be mountain biking and hiking in this amazing West
Texas wonder.
