Involvement by faculty members in the Association of Businesss Communications members has "put Nacogdoches on the map," according to Dr. Debbie DuFrene, ABC member and professor and chair of the department of general business.
ABC is made up of business communication professors from across the country and throughout the world. Memers meet several times a year in hopes of sharing techniques and ideas to help better the sstudy of business.
Since February of 2006, the office of the association has been in the McGee Business Building at SFA.
"A lot of people have learned to say and even spell Nacogdoches since the office moved here," DuFrene said.
The main office resides wherever the executive is employes. When the previous director from New York stepped down, SFA professor Betty Johnson stepped up.
"She does everything from here at SFA," DuFrene said. "All the operations for this program happen right here on campus."
She said SFA gives normal office type support, but the organization is self-sustaining.
Johnson entered the executive director position with a list of experience including eight years on the ABC Board of Directors with a term as president. She has also authored a textbook, now in its fifth edition, used in the business department.
"Her experience made her a very likely candidate for the position," DuFrene said. "We're just very happy with how everything has turned out for SFA."
DuFrene said SFA's ABC members recently returned from the organization's annual meeting in Washington, D.C.
