The Division of University Affairs has established a new, on-campus resource to help ensure students' safety.

The Hazing and Alcohol Task Force has developed a hazing hotline to be used by students, faculty, staff and members of the Nacogdoches community to report hazing incidents.

The line, which students can reach at 936-468-8888, has 24-hour voicemail that officers check regularly.

According to Dr. Peggy Scott, campus judicial officer, individuals reporting incidents may remain anonymous and may report as much information as they feel comfortable giving.

"People have to realize that the more information we have, the better and faster the investigation will be," she said.

As a result of Scott's department recognized the need to raise further awareness, SFA will be observing National Hazing Prevention Week, beginning Sept. 24.

NHPW began in 2005, and was created by CAMPUSSPEAK, a national agency that represents educational speakers and programs. The program was created as a direct response to concerns voiced at the Association of Fraternity Advisors' annual meeting in 2003.

It is directed primarily toward bringing attention to the hazing problem across the country and providing college organizations with the opportunity to inform and protect their members.

Any SFA organization whose members wish to host special events during NHPW should contact Student Activities Association or the judicial office.
