The Grand Opening of the new Student Recreation Center will be held Saturday in conjunction with Parents Day, and a full week of activities for SFA students will follow.
"We will be hosting a ribbon cutting ceremony (at 2 p.m. Saturday) to celebrate," said Elizabeth Ross, promotions, sponsorship and special events coordinator for Campus Recreation.
The week after the grand opening will be full of activities in the new facility. A complete list can be found on the Student Recreation web site at http://www.sfasu.edu/campusrec/grand-opening/
"We will have a pool party on Sunday, a fitness demo night on Monday and activities throughout the rest of the week. There is a lot going on, and we don't want anyone to miss out," Ross said
The new recreation facility, located on Wilson Drive across from the Intramural Fields, has two basketball and volleyball courts, along with four badminton courts, a 12,000-foot weight room/cardio floor, a group exercise room, a lounge to relax or study in, a climbing wall and locker rooms, all on the main level. The upper level will have a three-lane track, one for walking, jogging and running.
"(Cost of the facility) was $48 million with everything included," Ross said
The new center will have program areas including Fitness, Aquatics, Sports Clubs, Intramural Sports and Outdoor Pursuits.
"We will have a program guide put out each semester, and it will have info about each program area, the facility, and all the things going on throughout that semester," Ross said.
Students will be able to get information about what's going on at the recreation center in a variety of ways.
"We will have flyers and sandwich boards up around campus and will be passing out handbills," Ross said.
There will be bulletin boards in the new facility for each program area and a bulletin board available to the groups on campus to post flyers.
"Students can also find information on our website," Ross said.

The total cost of the facility is 24 million, not 48 million.
