The SFA Student Activities Association and the Department of Communication are honored to bring SFA alumna Teresa Hagen to campus to present her award winning documentary "To Touch the Soul" at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 24, in the Baker Pattillo Student Center Theater.
"To Touch the Soul" is a documentary about the experiences of educator and activist Carlos Silveira and several California State University, Long Beach students who traveled to Cambodia to create art projects with children living with HIV/AIDS. The film depicts the emotional connection Silveira and the students make with the children as they discover the true meaning of kindness, selflessness and courage.
Teresa Hagen is a 1978 graduate of SFA with a bachelor's degree in public relations. While at SFA, she was also a member of the first women's soccer team. She has co-produced a recruitment video for California State University, Los Angeles College of Engineering, Computer Science, and Technology, and has served as the writer for a documentary titled "A Reflection of Margaret Mitchell," East Heights Productions. At California State University, Long Beach, she works as an editor/writer for public affairs and university publications. In addition, she was communications coordinator in 2004 for the non-profit organization, We, The World.
"To Touch the Soul" is the recipient of the Best of Show Award and Honorable Mention from the Accolade competition. The Accolade competition recognizes film, television and video professionals who demonstrate exceptional achievement in craft and creativity, and who produce standout entertainment or contribute to profound social change. The documentary also has been selected to participate in the La Femme Film Festival, which focuses on women filmmakers.
The documentary is directed by Ryan Goble and narrated by Cassandra Hepburn with cinematography by Erin Henning.
