Dr. Kristen Beyer, an FBI forensic psychologist at the National Center for Analysis of Violent Behavior will be on campus Friday, April 12.
Beyer will speak to several groups of students throughout the day about what her center does, cases they've handled and the FBI's internship program..
At 11 a.m. she will be speaking to Dr. Karen Price's criminal justice class followed by lunch with members of Psi Chi, the national honor society for psychology. Beyer will also be the keynote speaker at the Psychology/Psi Chi awards banquet that evening.
The main session of the day will be held at 1:30 in Liberal Arts 102. This is an open session and all students are invited and encouraged to attend.
The entire day's events came about while planning the Psi Chi awards banquet. Secretary Whitney Swearengen, Garrison senior, was looking through Psi Chi's national publication, Eye on Psi Chi, and found Beyer in one of the publication's listings. Swearengen then contacted the FBI to inquire about having Beyer speak at their awards banquet.
"The FBI was so impressed that a student would talk this much initiative that they're giving her time off and covering her travel expenses," said Laren Scharff, psychology professor and Psi Chi advisor.
Rather than keep Beyer all to themselves, Psi Chi has decided to share her with the rest of the campus.
For more information contact Scharff at either 468-1415 or 468-1831.
