Zeta Tau Alpha sorority is searching for SFA's "Best Chest" to raise money to benefit breast cancer awareness and education.
The fundraiser willl be held through Wednesdday, Feb. 28. The sorirityy has set up a variety of plastic containers with photographs of shirtless members of local fraternities. Passers-by are encouraged to drop money in the container with the picture of the man they think is the most attracctive.
All of the money goes to the sorority's philanthropy, the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
"It's a fun way to raise money," Sarah Giles, Bryan freshman and Zeta member, said. "All week long, SFA students, both males and females, are encouraged to donate money by casting their vote for who they think has the best chest."
The "Best Chest" contest has become an annual event for Zeta Tau Alpha. Last year, the local event raised about $4,000.
"It's a big event for Zeta Tau Alpha and popular on campus," Giles said. "The guys being voted for are very athletic and involved in school sports, so it's always a close race."
ZTA members have set up a table for voting in front of the Stephen F. Austin status near Steen Library.
The fundraiser will end next week with a party announcing the winner of the contest. The party is open to all SFA students and will be hald from 9:30 p.m. to midnight Wednesday, Feb. 28, at Banita Creek Hall.
The "Best Chest" winner will not receive a prize, but Giles explained that this usually isn't an issue.
"I don't think the winner really cares if he gets a prize or not," Giles said. "The glory from being names the 'best chest' at SFA is enough to boost any guy's already-high ego," she aid with a laugh.
Zeta is heavily involved in the fight against breast cancer, both on the national and local levels. In addition to the "Best Chest" contest, the group also organizes its annual Run for Life, a 5K race held in April.
