SFA will be looking forward to a possible $33,000 in revenue from the new vending contract with Accent Food Co. signed in to effect August.

"They've said it's one of the smoothest openings they've ever had," Director of auxiliary services Dr. Jack Nelson said.

The school will receive a guaranteed 15% of the profits or $33,000 at the end of the semester, whichever is higher.

The school contracted Accent in August to take over all vending of food products on campus. They've purchased all the campus food vending machines and take care of maintenance, stocking, and money collection of the machines.

Accent also takes care of A&M's vending, and is a well-established company, Nelson said.

When the switch was made to an outside vending company, four SFA workers were let go.

"Of the four that were let go, one graduated over the summer and has left to work on a master's degree, one was hired by the UC, one was hired by the registrars office, and another was hired by the housing department, and has since left the position," Nelson said.

All four workers were given forewarning of the future switch.

Accent makes the decision on what to stock their machines with, but Nelson supervises the contract and says that if students really want something, he could work toward it.

"Their market research tells them what to put in (the machines)," Nelson said.

Accent is responsible for the new ice cream machine being placed in the Nibblers Nook.

Accent has some of their machines equipped with ID card readers, and hope to have readers in all of their machines by the end of the fiscal year.

The Coca-Cola Company has a contract with the school for all forms of drink vending, and per their contract, will be placing card readers in their machines as well. As of now, they have not updated their machines, and the administration is encouraging them to do so.

"Card readers are a part of the beverage agreement contract, and we are still in the process of completing some other issues that will allow for the readers to be placed on the machines," said Gregg Fort, associate athletic director, who is in charge of the contract.
